Who Should Attend
This educational program is specifically designed for infectious disease specialists, immunologists, family practitioners, hospitalists, internists and other physicians, physicians-in-training, and healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists) involved in and/or interested in influenza infections and their management. No specialized knowledge or skill other than general familiarity with internal medicine, virology, and/or immunology is required for successful participation in this program.
Objectives
After successful participation in this educational activity, the participant should be able to:
- Discuss the epidemiology, prevalence, and risk factors for influenza virus infection, including delineation of Influenza A and B
- Describe the frequency and mortality of complications associated with influenza virus infections
- Recognize and increase the index of suspicion for influenza virus infection in specific patient populations
- Identify strategies for infection deterrence and prevention
- Assess the pharmacoeconomic considerations of vaccination, prevention, and treatment of influenza virus infections
- List the advantages and disadvantages of current therapeutic approaches to treating specific patient groups
- Recognize the significance and impact of recent research of structure-based designed inhibitors on the future landscape of clinical care
- Discuss the integration of emerging prevention and treatment modalities based on current clinical evidence
